Pipa Beach, a paradise preserved by nature!
Listed among the top 10 most beautiful destinations along the Atlantic coast of Brazil, Pipa has a magnificent “picture postcard” landscape.
It all began when the Portuguese settlers discovered this place while sailing along the “Nordeste” coast. They spotted a barrel shaped rock on the present day “Dos Afogados beach,” now adored by surfers. A barrel is called a “Pipa” in Portuguese (in Brazilian Portuguese it means a kite) and that is how it was named.
Over time, the colonizers and their descendants settled in the area and established a small fishing village on the cliff top in the middle of the forest. It was only from the 1980’s that the beauty of this place and its perfect waves started to attract the first surfers. From then, Pipa has become more and more famous and today we find a beautiful holiday village that has retained its charm. It now has a wide choice of hotels to welcome travelers to this splendid natural setting.
Relax in this small world ideal for sunbathing and swimming in the sea, thanks to the curved cliffs that protect the beach from the strong ocean currents. Its long white stretches of fine sand are bordered by dense coconut plantations and high cliffs covered with greenery, while its natural pools welcome the clear waters of the open sea. A superb panorama that we suggest you enjoy, from the jacuzzi or the private swimming pool of one of the very comfortable hotels we have selected for you, located on the edge of the cliffs.
Green leisure pursuits at Pipa beach
Although only 1 hour from Natal and its international airport (about 85km), the resort’s location in the most important nature reserve of Rio Grande do Norte offers many opportunities for green leisure activities.
If you are a nature lover, you will be delighted to know that both under the water and on the ground, you will find a rare and conserved natural environment.
Take a trip to the Praia do Madeiro, a conservation area where you can watch sea turtles swim underwater or go during the nesting season for night time outings. Also join the Baia dos Golfinhos early in the morning to admire the dolphins swimming freely just a few hundred meters from the shore.
At low tide, you will discover small pools of crystal clear waters that are formed in several places in the surrounding reefs. With a mask and a snorkel, you can discover the fascinating underwater world of fish, seaweed and other shimmering shells. The powerful wind and waves of Praia do Amor also make the resort a renowned spot for surfers and kite surfers of all levels.
Also, plan a hike in one of the world’s oldest preserved jungles, the “Mata Atlantica“. This tropical forest that originally covered virtually the entire Brazilian coastline has been 95% destroyed and Pipa is one of the few places in Brazil where you can explore a forest which survived the last glacial period.
Several trails will allow you to meet the emblematic species of the Northeast such as callithrix, iguanas, opossums and great kiskadee.
It’s an ideal opportunity to learn more about the local ecosystem and discover a totally different and very diverse landscape. A real show of nature, for both children and adults.
